Sun Life Stadium, Renovations



Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural engineering services for major renovations at Sun Life Stadium to upgrade the facility into a world-class stadium. The facility houses the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami football and will also attract other events, including college football championships, soccer matches and concerts. Once the upgrades are finished, events at the stadium will be held year round.

The renovations will be completed in two phases over a two year period and are focused on improving the fan experience. The first phase, to be completed in time for the 2015 NFL season, will include a new lower bowl on the sidelines, all new seats and rebuilding the concourses at the 100 and 300 levels. The new configuration will bring seats closer to the field and provide new suites and other unique seating options. The second phase includes a long-span, cable-supported canopy, which will extend over the seating bowl to protect fans from the elements. Other updates include suspension of four large high-definition screens and suite renovations to the 200 concourse level.
