Our historic preservation practice focuses on the analysis of structural and architectural systems in older buildings to make viable recommendations
on how to meet codes and modern functional requirements, while remaining faithful to the aesthetics of the original design. Our team offers a valuable
combination of specialists—structural engineers trained in design, forensic techniques and historic preservation; architects trained in design,
building technology, forensics and historic preservation; conservators trained in understanding characteristics of historic and contemporary building
materials; and mechanical engineers trained to coordinate with preservation requirements. To this unique combination of design, investigative and
rehabilitative skills we add practical knowledge of historic building design and construction methods, enabling us to develop solutions that are
sensitive to vintage, archaic, and undesigned systems and materials. Our work often extends beyond the building itself, to its surrounding context.
We are mindful of schedule, budgetary, and operational constraints, and partner with building owners, tenants, and other parties to identify optimal solutions.
We have been involved in numerous highly sensitive projects, ranging from the structural analysis of the U.S. Capitol Dome, the façade restoration of the
Chrysler and Empire State buildings in New York, the construction monitoring of historic structures surrounding the Atlantic Yards Development in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the renovation of the University of Delaware's historic Memorial Hall into a state-of-the-art lecture hall and classroom building.
