We provide specialized structural engineering services for nuclear facilities, including commercial nuclear power plants and Department of Energy nuclear laboratories.
Our expertise in design for concrete and steel structures is augmented by our highly developed analysis capabilities, which include explicit and implicit nonlinear dynamic finite-element analyses, soil-structural interaction modeling, computational fluid dynamics, fragility studies, impact analyses and response spectra development. We design for extreme loads caused by natural hazard phenomena, accidental explosions, vehicle and aircraft impact and other high-intensity man-made events. We are also experienced in the analysis and design of protective barriers and containment structures.
We maintain an NQA-1 quality assurance program, which is on a qualified suppliers list for Department of Energy facilities. We perform our work using a project-specific, graded approach in accordance with the requirements of applicable design-basis documents, 10CFR50 Appendix B, NRC Regulatory Guides, ANSI Standards, NQA-1, and OSHA (29CFR1926 & 1910).
We have completed a wide variety of projects at nuclear facilities and offer particular expertise in:
• Seismic design and analyses in compliance with ASCE/SEI 43-05, “Seismic Design Criteria for Structures, Systems, and Components in Nuclear Facilities.”
• Steel Design in compliance with AISC N690, “Specification for Safety-Related Steel Structures for Nuclear Facilities.”
• Concrete Design in compliance with ACI 349, “Requirements for Nuclear-Safety Related Concrete.”
• Anti-terrorism/force protection (AT/FP) design for critical components.
