We evaluate planned demolition sequences for concrete and steel bridges to confirm stability during superstructure removal. Demolition work is often close to other structures, so accurate assessment of movement and loads to prevent collateral damage is essential. We perform detailed inspections and modeling to account for in-situ conditions and then develop a cutting and removal sequence that avoids unanticipated collapses or movements.
Our experience includes design for containment structures that limit the impact of blasts used for pier removal; development of procedures for temporary sheeting or cofferdam removal; planning for restoration of existing site conditions and groundwater levels; and analyzing stress and deformations for any remaining portions of a bridge during demolition.
