Richard L. Tomasetti, PE, Hon. AIA, chairman and co-founder of Thornton Tomasetti Inc., will be honored with the Eugene M. Smith Technical Writing Award during the 2006 Roger H. Corbetta Awards Program held at the Concrete Industry Board’s 45th Annual Awards Dinner at the Marina del Rey in The Bronx on Tuesday, November 14th. Mr. Tomasetti, who is currently Chairman of the New York Building Foundation and Public Director of the AIA New York Chapter, will be honored for his article on “Novel Advantages of Composite Construction.”
Richard Tomasetti has 35 years of experience as a structural engineer including numerous major projects from the design of the World Financial Center in New York to Plaza 66 in Shanghai, the tallest concrete building in China. His firm has provided the structural engineering for the tallest buildings in the world, and is currently working on the new Yankee Stadium, The Nets Arena, the New York Times, Bloomberg LLP and Boston Properties’ high-rise buildings in New York.
Mr. Tomasetti and his firm led the engineering efforts for the NYC Department of Design and Construction’s response to the World Trade Center disaster. He is co-author of “Chapter 22: Protective Design of Structures” in Building Security; Handbook for Architectural Planning and Design, published by McGraw Hill, 2004.
Mr. Tomasetti received his B.C.E. degree and an Honorary Doctorate from Manhattan College, and his M.S.C.E. degree from New York University. He is an adjunct Professor at Columbia and New York University. His numerous honors and awards include election to the National Academy of Engineering in 2004 and Engineering News Records citation “Those Who Made Marks” for developing the “stressed skin” tube structure for high-rise buildings.
