A significant benefit of the September 2015 merger between Weidlinger Associates and Thornton Tomasetti is the ability of our façade engineering practice to provide best-in-class façade blast consulting services to clients worldwide. More than 50 years of protective design experience for buildings makes us more qualified than any other engineering firm to provide physical security services for every type of building envelope.
Our façade threat and vulnerability assessments and façade hardening services make use of nonlinear inelastic dynamic analysis to minimize hazards to building occupants with balanced and economical façade mitigation measures. We can evaluate any new or existing building façade for potential weaknesses and provide retrofit options that address these vulnerabilities. Our façade blast engineers also embrace their role in the aesthetic success of every project, striving to minimize impacts on unique architectural features as well as on schedule and cost.
Kingsgate House Completed

Kingsgate House on Victoria Street in London, designed by Lynch Architects, is now complete and has been handed over to our client, Land Securities. We provided façade engineering services from design to completion. The residential and commercial building features Jura limestone façades and piers with bronze metal window frame reveals.
This November, the Institution of Structural Engineers bestowed its 2015 Structural Award for Infrastructure or Transportation Structures on the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC). We performed both structural and façade engineering for the glass- and ETFE-clad building.
Here’s what the judges had to say: “The judges were impressed by the elegant and clearly legible diagrid arch structure, which has inherent structural stability and redundancy, and whose toroidal geometry helps to maximize its efficiency. The way in which the tall curved glass end walls provide restraint to the roof and also support the cantilevered overhangs was also noted as being particularly successful.”
