Sixty-six – that’s the size of Thornton Tomasetti’s growing team of Green Champions. These employees in 29 locations around the world volunteer to help their office reduce energy consumption and play a key role in our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. Beyond reducing carbon emissions and “being green,” these champions work to improve employee wellness, organize community service activities, and implement other sustainability initiatives.
Last year, Green Champions started a recycling program in Austin; replaced inefficient lighting in Edinburgh; brought more standing desks to Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles and San Francisco; and launched a composting program in London. With support from our Corporate Sustainability department, which awarded $40,000 in grants across 12 offices, Green Champions enhanced the office environment by placing potted plants in public areas in the New York, Madison Avenue office, eliminated paper cups and single-use coffee pods in our New York, Wall Street office, and introduced bike sharing in Shanghai. And they didn’t just stop there.
To learn more about these and other activities, including how Green Champions engaged more than 300 staff members to participate in our annual “wellness at work” competition, see our recently released 2017 Sustainability Report.
