Climate Pledge Arena Named Sports Facility of the Year

In naming Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena its 2022 Sports Facility of the Year, Sports Business Journal wrote, it “was more complex than probably any North American stadium or arena, owing to the tight footprint of the site and the engineering undertakings: preserving the roof, propping it up (44 million pounds), then building a new arena beneath it.” It was definitely challenging, but Thornton Tomasetti and our project partners Oak View Group, Populous and Mortensen used some innovative strategies to transform the 1960s-era landmark into a state-of-the art home for Seattle’s pro teams, the Kraken and Storm.
