I enjoy the breadth of what I do. One day I’m designing a new structure and the next, I’m taking down one that is obsolete.

Ali Ashrafi joined Thornton Tomasetti in 2006 and is a member of our Forensics practice and its Advanced Analytics group. He has more than 10 years of experience in structural design and modifications, seismic and wind performance-based design, advanced analytics, nonlinear and dynamic analysis, deconstruction engineering, emergency response and forensic investigation.

Academic and Professional Contributions
Ali has been an adjunct professor at Columbia University since 2011, teaching the course Earthquake and Wind Engineering. He is the author of numerous technical papers and articles and is a frequent presenter at academic and industry conferences and events. He also serves as a reviewer for several technical journals and a member of two ASCE committees.

Outside of Work
Ali likes new experiences, whether it is jumping out of a plane, or going on safari in South Africa. Ali has been an avid FC Barcelona fan since childhood, way before Lionel Messi made it cool. He is also a new dad and enjoys spending time with his family.
