When faced with problems that might seem otherwise insurmountable, Gijs excels in finding creative and effective solutions.

Gijs Libourel has nearly 20 years of experience in façade engineering, structural engineering, multidisciplinary project management and fabrication modeling. Throughout his career, he has served as lead designer and project manager for several projects in the U.S. and globally in such market sectors as cultural and institutional, mixed-use, sports, residential and commercial. Since joining Thornton Tomasetti in 2015, Gijs has focused primarily on façade engineering projects.

A Creative Approach to Design
Gijs has collaborated with world-renowned architects on a number of high-profile projects such as the Moody Center of the Arts at Rice University with Michael Maltzan Architects. He is skilled in looking for creative solutions to complex problems. He employs a holistic approach to design, balancing sound façade engineering with an eye for aesthetics and a commitment to meeting the needs of clients and owners.

Outside of Work
An avid cyclist, Gijs is a daily bike commuter and on weekends enjoys spending time riding the local terrain. He has been playing acoustic and electric guitar since he was 12 years old, and it continues to be a source of fun and relaxation. While he used to perform in a band, Gijs doesn’t have much time for music these days as the father of two young children.
