Angeles National Forest Supervisor’s Office Building in Arcadia, Calif.
The 24,000-square-foot Supervisor’s Office Building replaces 22 modular units to house 100 USDA employees under one roof. Thornton Tomasetti provided structural engineering for the design-build of the new building, the rehabilitation of three buildings and associated site improvements.
In addition to traditional administrative functions, the structure is used for indoor and outdoor training for federal, county and city fire departments and serves as a support center during fire and other emergencies. The two-story timber structure has a story height of 13 feet, six inches for the first floor and 11 feet, six inches for the second floor. Wood trusses are exposed to the interior and supported by timber columns at each end. Structural insulated panels spanning between the roof trusses provide a structural diaphragm.
In 2014 the project received LEED NC Gold certification.
