Thornton Tomasetti provided LEED consulting for a mixed-use neighborhood on the Oakland Estuary. With its extensive system of parks, promenades, quays and plazas, the community will significantly extend and enliven Oakland’s waterfront eastward from Jack London Square, reconnecting the city with a significant portion of its shoreline. The project will include 3,100 residential units, 182,000 square feet of non-residential spaces including retail, community spaces and a planned grocery store.
Our sustainability consultants provided technical guidance to the project team, coordinated and managed the LEED Online documentation effort, and managed quality assurance and control procedures related to the certification process.
The project includes many sustainable features, including safe, walkable streets and pedestrian-orientated hardscapes that connect the community to the Oakland waterfront and estuaries, and recreational opportunities. The project includes more than 30 acres of parks and open space, with bike and jogging trails. Energy performance is another key feature of the Brooklyn Basin community. Buildings are expected to achieve a 20 percent energy performance improvement over ASHRAE 90.1-2010.
Brooklyn Basin is the first LEED ND project to be certified using the LEED v4 rating system.
