The terminal in the Red Hook neighborhood officially opened with the docking of the cruise liner Carnival’s Queen Mary 2, nearly four football fields long and as tall as a 23-story building, on April 15, 2006.
Thornton Tomasetti provided subconsultant structural engineering services to Bermello Ajamil & Partners for the terminal building, which included value engineering, development of schematic / conceptual design, bidding / analysis, and construction phase services. The structural design of the terminal includes luxuries such as frosted-glass walls, a VIP room for suite passengers, and canopied areas over passageways to the parking.
