College of DuPage Health and Science Center

The new Health and Science Center (HSC) is the second building to be constructed as part of the College of DuPage’s massive facilities master plan.

The 186,000-square-foot, three-story, LEED Gold building is slab-on-grade with a spread footing foundation and steel frame superstructure. It houses a combination of laboratory, classroom, office and instructional space for programs, including allied health, certified nursing assistant, medical imaging, respiratory care, surgical technology, microbiology and zoology.

A shared, central space links the health careers wing and the natural sciences wing. This gallery space is the heart of the HSC and serves as a gathering space for both students and faculty. The gallery is enclosed by glass on both the north and south sides to create an enclosed “outdoor” space that is flooded with natural light and provides views of a nearby prairie.

The exterior of the structure is clad with contrasting materials to create a “light and dark” design that was inspired by DNA sequencing blueprints. A bridge link connects the HSC to the nearby Student Resources Center.
