The Grand Concourse from East 166th to East 171st Streets in the Bronx.
We prepared final design documents for the reconstruction of the service roads and medians of the Grand Concourse from East 166th to East 171st Streets in the Bronx. The key component of the project is a widening of the raised concrete medians that separate the main roadway from the service roads and the inclusion of bike lane buffers on the service roads. These improvements are similar to the recently constructed project just south on the Grand Concourse (East 161st to East 166th Streets). The reconstruction will improve safety and quality of life for all users of the Grand Concourse by reducing vehicular speeds and pedestrian crossing distances, while converting part of the right of way to increased greenery and bicycle lanes. The widened medians will provide additional space for planting and seating, with the intent that these features will be maintained by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation.
The roadway design will also include new infrastructure, including combined sewers, distribution water mains, traffic signals, historical street lighting, curbs and sidewalks, sidewalk extensions and raised crosswalks at select locations, ADA compliant pedestrian ramps, and sustainable design features.
