Imperial College is creating a new campus in White City in West London. The 22-acre site, formerly occupied by the BBC, is adjacent to Imperial’s Hammersmith Medical Campus and will be at the heart of London’s new research quarter. Block C will provide the flagship science center to house facilities for health and biomedical research.
The building façades feature multiple cladding systems, ranging from unitized curtain walling, full-height stick systems and naturally ventilated double skin façades to precast concrete cladding and perforated solid bronze feature panels.
Thornton Tomasetti provided façade consulting services during the tender phase with regards to the façade packages to check compliance with the performance specification and employer’s requirements, including the review of design proposals and alternatives presented by the shortlisted cladding contractors, and advised as necessary. We also carried out value engineering sessions during the negotiation phases. Our role during construction administration includes the review of the cladding contractor’s submittals, factory visits during production, witnessing tests and site observations.
