Martin Army Community Hospital

Thornton Tomasetti provided structural services for a design-build healthcare facility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The 745,000-square-foot structure houses a 70-bed replacement hospital, a grand concourse and two clinics in a separate wing. Several additional support structures include a 20,000-square-foot central energy plant, an ambulance garage, hazardous materials building, telecommunications building and a storm-water management structure. The project was being designed to satisfy LEED Silver criteria.

Our engineers helped meet the aggressive project schedule by producing early structural construction documents, which allowed for early procurement of steel, and reviewing steel shop drawings in electronic format.

Thornton Tomasetti also provided construction engineering services, including design for steel connections and temporary wall bracing.

Vibration Analysis

Successfully engineered buildings both resist anticipated loads and maintain comfortable and functional conditions for occupants. Vibrations from walking, dancing, exercising, synchronous cheering, operating mechanical equipment, construction activities and wind gusts can generate motion that disturbs building occupants or disrupts sensitive operations. We use analysis and monitoring to identify vibration sources and determine methods to reduce or eliminate undesirable effects. We have performed vibration analyses in commercial and residential high-rise buildings, laboratories and industrial buildings, stadium grandstands, operable roofs and more.
