Metra Headquarters Building in Chicago.
Constructed circa 1923, the Metra Headquarters Building located at 547 W. Jackson Boulevard in Chicago, Illinois is a 15-story building with two main façades clad in terra cotta and the remaining façades composed of glazed brick with terra cotta accents.
Thornton Tomasetti was retained to complete a comprehensive three-year restoration project that began with a critical façade examination for compliance with the City of Chicago Façade Ordinance. To minimize inspection costs and inconvenience to building occupants, the examination also included documenting all areas of deterioration on the facades, with an emphasis on damaged terra cotta. The restoration scope included replacing or repairing all damaged terra cotta, designing new relieving angles, replacing deteriorated secondary steel, tuckpointing, and cleaning.
