Thornton Tomasetti was retained by McClarens Young International on behalf of a consortium of 12 insurance companies to investigate and document widespread damage sustained by the exterior glazing of this prominent 52-story commercial tower when a crane accident occurred during construction. The firm initially performed a comprehensive, up-close evaluation of the glass panels (“lites”) to determine the extent of the damage and verify its cause and origin.

At the client’s request, Thornton Tomasetti also performed an analysis of each of the building’s façades to develop the baseline protocols necessary to quantify and qualify the extent of damage to each lite and assisted the team in determining which could remain in service “as-is” and which were in need of repair.
