Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design services for a $12.5 million expansion and renovation to an existing community center. The improved facility includes a new 100,000-square-foot practice facility and training center for the Chicago Wolves hockey team and a modern fitness center for the Hoffman Estates Park District.
The expansion provides two professional-grade ice rinks that accommodate 800 spectators, a gymnastics area, a senior center, party rooms and offices, a full-service pro shop, lockers and a Wolves hockey operations office.
Thornton Tomasetti utilized concrete, instead of sand, below the ice surfaces to extend the life of the facility.
