Tradition Senior Living develops, constructs and manages high-end independent living, assisted living and memory care communities in Texas. Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural engineering services for its first community in Houston. The facility includes a five-story, 400,000-square-foot building housing 223 independent living units; a two-story, 120,000-square-foot building accommodating 66 assisted living units and 30 memory care units. An 117,000-square-foot cast-in-place concrete one-level parking garage is underneath the independent living component of the development. The fitness areas include an indoor pool, a weight room, a Pilates room and a group exercise room.
The independent living structure will be concrete flat-plate post-tensioned construction for the first two levels and wood-framed floors for the following levels. The lateral load resisting system will consist of ordinary reinforced masonry shear walls and ordinary reinforced concrete shear walls. The assisted living and memory care facility will be constructed of cast-in-place flat-plate, post-tensioned concrete slabs, supported by cast-in-place concrete columns.
