Wildfire Damage in Yuca Valley, Calif.

Wildfire Damage: Scope and Code Consulting to Restore Unique Residential Compound

A major wildfire destroyed a unique home in Pioneertown, an upscale desert community in Yucca Valley, California. The home was designed and built in 1972, virtually by hand, by a disciple of Frank Lloyd Wright. We assisted the insurance carrier in determining how to return the property to pre-loss conditions while complying with current code.

We obtained documents from the owner that informed us of the original design, including drawings and photos of the property taken prior to the fire. In addition, we conducted site visits to examine the remaining structures and materials used, and met extensively with city officials to discuss a plan to design a code-compliant home on an existing site. By providing a comprehensive plan and budget that satisfied both the local building authorities and the insured owners, we assisted the insurance company in successfully resolving the claim and enabling the owners to rebuild this unique property.
