Damage investigation from Hurricane Katrina at Xavier University in New Orleans.

Xavier University

Thornton Tomasetti was retained by Xavier University’s insurance carrier to evaluate damage sustained by 25 buildings on the University campus as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Scope of services included full existing condition observation, documentation, evaluation and quantification of wind, wind-driven rain and vandalism related to damage. Also included preparation of 25 damage reports and repair estimates for each of the buildings.

The entire campus in the Gert Town neighborhood of New Orleans was flooded after Katrina and most structures had experienced wind damage and associated water intrusion. At the time of Thornton Tomasetti’s assignment in the spring of 2006, the rebuilding effort was underway, and the University was operating again.
