Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design services for a new five-level flat-plate concrete, 63,000-gross-square-foot structure to house biomedical, chemical and mechanical engineering programs. The north façade is made up entirely of a glass curtain wall, hung from a cantilevered corridor running along the face of the building. This cantilevered corridor is adjacent to lab space, which required a creative engineering solution, in order to meet the strict vibration criteria associated with laboratory space.

The building design incorporates numerous sustainable design features such as retaining and reusing storm water and recycling 75 percent of construction materials. The purified and recycled waste-stream of lab water is used for toilet water which saves 95,000 gallons of water per year. The project received LEED Gold certification.
