Uber Technologies is planning to start construction on its new corporate headquarters in San Francisco, California, in fall 2015. Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural engineering for the project. The 423,000-square-foot complex will include an 11-story structure and an adjoining six-story building. The two buildings will be organized around a multistory “commons” — a network of circulation and gathering spaces — featuring three angling glass and steel bridges crossing over a public pedestrian way. Small-scale retail will be included on the ground floor of each building. A small existing park will be refurbished and incorporated into the campus and will include a purpose built day care center. The project also encompasses streetscape improvements and the addition of public amenities. Other project team members include design firms SHoP Architects and Studio O+A, geotechnical engineers Langan Treadwell and Rollo and MEP engineers AlfaTech Engineering.
