Sam has played a critical role in rehabilitating many of New York’s most important bridges from the Verrazano-Narrows to the Tappan Zee.

Sam Summerville oversees the firm’s Weidlinger Transportation practice. He leads a team of skilled design and construction inspection professionals recognized for its technical excellence and ability to assist clients in designing, rehabilitating and maintaining critical transportation infrastructure. Sam is also responsible for strategic planning and business development, fostering the development of new technologies and services to meet client needs and supporting the firm’s growth targets for the practice.

Roads, Bridges & More
Sam has more than three decades of experience in the transportation field. His work includes bridge inspections, new bridge design, and the rehabilitation of major structures, urban interchanges and highway structures across North America. Sam’s design credits include the Metrorrey light-rail viaduct in Monterrey, Mexico and the design for a new orthotropic deck for the Throgs Neck Bridge in New York City. His work on New York City’s Manhattan Bridge spans a period of 25 years and includes five major rehabilitation contracts.

Outside of Work
Sam enjoys spending time with his family. He also likes to play golf whenever possible. Sam is a five-time All-American in track. He holds the Manhattan College record for the 800 meters, 4×800 meter relay and sprint medley relay outdoors. He was inducted into the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.
