Thornton Tomasetti announces that Kenneth Zammit, Ph.D., A&CE, CEng, MICE, FSFE has joined the firm’s London office as a director in the Façade Engineering practice. He will be responsible for accelerating the team’s growth in the U.K. and the European region.

Leveraging his expertise in digital innovation and wind engineering, Zammit will also work to increase collaboration across the firm by facilitating technological investment and focusing on broader international growth. He rejoins Thornton Tomasetti after seven years at BuroHappold in London, where he was most recently façade engineering group director.

“We are very pleased to welcome Kenneth back to Thornton Tomasetti,” Sergio De Gaetano, senior principal and Façade Engineering practice leader, said. “His strong technical skills, leadership abilities and involvement in the industry will enhance our presence in the region, while his multidisciplinary approach to design will create new synergies between our structural engineering, building physics and blast engineering teams.”

Zammit is a committee member of the British Standards Institution, and a contributor to its upcoming CEN/TS 19100 “Design of glass structures” (structural glass Eurocode). He is also a member of the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology’s technical board, a board member of the Society of Façade Engineering, and contributor to the recent CWCT/SFE “Technical guidance for interpretation in relation to the external walls and specified attachments of relevant buildings in England.”

Zammit holds a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Cambridge, a master’s degree in façade engineering from the University of Bath and a bachelor’s degree in architecture and engineering from the University of Malta. He is also a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a chartered engineer.

“I’m eager to start collaborating with Thornton Tomasetti’s diverse teams, both in the European region and beyond,” Zammit said. “I believe that we can elevate building design by leveraging computational tools and efficient use of data. This will help bring clarity of direction to the current market and in challenging situations.”
