Lincoln Center West Initiative Adds the Baron Theater, Public Gardens and a New Amsterdam Avenue Entrance

Lincoln Center has broken ground on the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Lincoln Center West Initiative, a major transformation of the Amsterdam Avenue side of its Manhattan campus. The project will redevelop Damrosch Park with new public gardens, improved campus access, expanded green space, and the Baron Theater, a new outdoor performance venue designed for approximately 2,000 audience members.

Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural engineering, façade engineering, and waterproofing services for the project.

The initiative will create a new west-side entrance to Lincoln Center, strengthen connections to Amsterdam Avenue and the surrounding Upper West Side community, and introduce the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Gardens with a lawn, water feature, tree groves, gathering spaces, and performance infrastructure. Lincoln Center says the project reflects extensive community engagement and is expected to open in summer 2028.
