Communities of Practice

CoPs are self-organizing, grassroots entities, populated by people united by a common passion.

What is a Community of Practice?

Engineering is a knowledge business. To function at the highest possible level requires capturing, cultivating and spreading ideas, know-how and know-who. This is what communities of practice (CoPs) do.

There are additional benefits. In our firm, the CoPs both respond to and drive strategy, generate new services, solve problems, build community, promote the spread of best practices, cultivate innovation, develop leadership skills, and help recruit and retain talent.

CoPs are self-organizing, grassroots entities, populated by people united by a common passion. Anyone can join and contribute to any CoP. Anyone can recommend to our steering committee the addition of a new CoP topic. Anyone can raise their hand and volunteer for CoP leadership responsibility.

As of today, we have 34 CoPs – from concrete assessment and repair, to finite element analysis, to timber design and detailing.

Below is a short introduction to a sample of our CoPs.
