The modernization of one of the nation’s oldest collegiate football stadiums is at the half-way line. A topping out ceremony was held last week for phase 1 of the renovation of The University of Kansas’ David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence. Our Construction Engineering team, which provided connection design and Tekla modeling to Turner Construction Company and erection engineering services to Doherty Steel, Inc., was on hand for the festivities. Part of the university’s Gateway District development, the stadium renovation is designed to enhance the fan experience and will include new premium seating and additional concession areas. The initial phase, which focuses on the southwest, west and north sides of the stadium, is expected to be completed by the Jayhawks’ 2025 football season. Seating capacity will be determined by future work; however, it is anticipated to accommodate more than 40,000 fans.
