As billions are invested in stadiums, arenas, college athletics, casinos and entertainment destinations across the Northeast, playing the long game means using the capital already being spent to create stronger, smarter and more valuable destinations for what comes next.
This summer, extreme heat, flash flooding, and storms tested what it takes to keep people coming through the gates. At the same time, owners are already investing heavily in new facilities, renovations and aging infrastructure. The question isn’t whether more capital will be spent. It’s how to get more from it.
Can required upgrades also lower operating costs? Can incentives and public funding stretch capital budgets further? Can resilience investments protect revenue, operations and the guest experience when weather disrupts business? And for some of the region’s most visible destinations, what is the cost of being seen as falling behind?
During Climate Week NYC, leaders from sports, entertainment, universities, government and sustainability will explore how today’s investments can reduce risk, improve performance and prepare facilities for increasingly extreme conditions and the next generation of major events.
