Smith County Courthouse
A seven-story courthouse in Texas will replace one that has been around for over 64 years.
Overview
For 64 years, the Smith County Courthouse served as a hub for judicial proceedings, county offices and community events. However, its layout caused judges, jurors, the public and detainees to cross paths inside, and seven trial rooms were crammed into a space meant for two. These safety and space issues prompted calls for a new courthouse.
We are providing structural design to Aillet, Fenner, Jolly, & McClelland Inc. and Fitzpatrick Architects for a new Smith County Courthouse, which will span seven floors with a total of 12 courtrooms.
Highlights
- The first and second floors will be dedicated as public spaces, featuring a central jury room and a law library.
- The sixth floor will house the district attorney's office, while the seventh floor will provide additional space for future expansion.
