Anagram Gowanus Tops Out Along Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal

Anagram Gowanus, a 20-story mixed-use development rising along the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, has reached a major construction milestone with its topping out.

Located within a FEMA AE flood zone, the project incorporates a flood-mitigation strategy developed in accordance with New York City Building Code and FEMA requirements.

Anagram Gowanus, a 20-story mixed-use development rising along the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, has reached a major construction milestone with its topping out. 

Designed by SO–IL, with Magnusson Architecture & Planning serving as architect of record, the approximately 203,000-square-foot project at 450 Union Street will include 158 rental apartments, with a portion designated as affordable housing, along with approximately 22,000 square feet of retail and community space.

Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural engineering and flood resilience design services for the reinforced-concrete building, supporting the design team and client throughout planning and execution. 

Located within a FEMA AE flood zone, the project incorporates a flood-mitigation strategy developed in accordance with New York City Building Code and FEMA requirements. 

Completion is estimated for 2026.
