Camden Film Quarter has received planning approval, marking a significant milestone for the £1 billion mixed-use development in London. The project will transform the former Holmes Road Depot and Regis Road site into a new district centred on film and television production. Thornton Tomasetti is providing civil, structural, geotechnical, façade, and sustainability engineering services for Yoo Capital, working alongside masterplan architect SPPARC.
The development will include 11 purpose-built soundstages, more than 100,000 square feet of creative workspace, education facilities for the National Film and Television School and London Screen Academy, 485 new homes with 50% affordable housing, and new public open space and green infrastructure.
The project presents a series of engineering challenges, including large-span studio structures, deep basement construction that incorporates film production space, sustainable drainage systems, and the diversion of major sewer infrastructure, including the Fleet River sewer.
The first phase of Camden Film Quarter is in design, with completion scheduled for 2030.
