A slow-burning, hard-to-access condo fire in Toronto is underscoring the challenges that hard-to-reach spaces pose for emergency response. The fire, located in the narrow space between two high-rise towers on Thorncliffe Park Drive, has persisted for more than a week and displaced hundreds of residents.
On Moore in the Morning (NewsTalk 1010), Thornton Tomasetti Forensics Principal Ali Ashrafi explored why the fire has been so difficult to extinguish. Ali, one of our fire forensic experts, noted that combustible materials in a tight, low-oxygen space are sustaining a persistent fire that behaves differently from typical interior and exterior incidents and is difficult for crews to reach.
A thorough follow-up investigation, Ashrafi explained, will be essential to understand the full extent of the affected area and the conditions that allowed the fire to continue.
