The City of Nashua, New Hampshire is exploring a new approach to residential overnight parking as demand for spaces in parts of the city outpaces supply.
In a Nashua Ink Link article, Thornton Tomasetti parking and mobility specialist Andy Hill discusses a proposed pilot program for an area roughly bounded by Temple, Spruce, East Hollis, and Commercial Streets. The area currently has an estimated shortage of 42 off-street parking spaces, which could grow as planned redevelopment adds new demand.
Thornton Tomasetti is working with the city to evaluate how an overnight permit program could address the shortage. Hill presented several potential approaches for distributing permits, including lottery-based models designed to balance the number of permits issued with available on-street parking.
The City and Thornton Tomasetti will continue developing the proposed program following a recommendation from Nashua’s Committee on Infrastructure.
