Structural design services for an innovative public library designed to help the Colorado Front Range community connect meaningfully to the natural world.
Conceived as a place that would help people find their place in nature, the Anythink Nature Library’s form is rooted in a nature-centered design. Its sweeping, curved forms were inspired by the landscape of the Colorado plains. Set on a 15-acre site within the Aylor Open Lands, the dynamic structure connects indoor and outdoor spaces, with an open-air garden at its center.
We provided structural design services to Davis Partnership Architects for the 33,000-square-foot experience library. It includes indoor and outdoor assembly spaces, environmental labs, play areas, and a cafe, as well as office spaces and meeting rooms.
The steel-framed building has complex curving geometry – there are few square corners or straight lines – and includes a sculptural steel feature column at the entryway. We performed parametric modeling to optimize the design and simplify coordination and detailing. Poor soil conditions, including expansive soils, required careful analysis of potential building movement. Our team developed a steel-framed structured ground floor slab supported on deep foundations to address these challenging site conditions.
