Overview
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Headquarters features a highly efficient exterior building enclosure that includes exterior sun shades, natural ventilation with the use of operable windows, reduced lighting-power densities through space planning, and solar and wind harvesting that meets a significant portion of the building's energy demand.
We provided LEED consulting services to KMD Architects and Stevens & Associates for this LEED Platinum-certified building located at 525 Golden Gate Avenue.
Highlights
- Emphasis was placed on harnessing natural daylight to reduce the electrical-lighting load needed for the building.
- Waterless urinals, faucet sensors and on-demand water heaters were employed to reduce each occupant's water usage to only five gallons per day.
- Wastewater is recycled through basement filters and put to use in toilets and the cooling system.
- We coordinated with the owner and design team to manage the LEED certification process by providing technical advice, coordinating and managing the LEED Online documentation effort, reviewing product submittals and RFIs, and managing quality assurance and control procedures related to the certification process.
