We provided structural design services to BOKA Powell & Andersson-Wise Architects for the one-million-square-foot, LEED Silver urban complex that includes a 35-story tower with 200 luxury condominiums and a 250-room W Austin Hotel. The development was completed in 2010.
Highlights
- The building’s podium houses retail space, office space, restaurants and three levels of below-grade parking. An amenity level with pools for the hotel and the condominium tower is located above the podium.
- The centerpiece of the development is an attached 2,750-seat theater where the PBS live music show “Austin City Limits” is recorded.
- The hotel and condominium portions of the structure are composed of post-tensioned slabs. The majority of the podium is a conventional concrete structure, while the theater portion is framed with structural steel. The stacking of multiple occupancies drove the selection of the structural systems.
