New Philadelphia Arena Design Unveiled

A new sports and entertainment hub is taking shape in South Philadelphia, bringing three professional sports teams together under one roof. Newly released renderings offer a look at the arena planned for the historic Spectrum grounds. 

Targeted to open in 2030, the new home of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, and the city’s future WNBA team is designed by Populous with Moody Nolan. The privately funded arena, developed by a partnership between Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Comcast Spectacor, will host sports, live entertainment, and community programming. 

Thornton Tomasetti is collaborating with local firm Keast & Hood on structural engineering and providing protective design and security and resilience services. 

The exterior design draws inspiration from the Spectrum, which stood on the site from 1967 to 2011. Stacked bands reinterpret the former venue’s distinctive form, connecting the site’s sports history with its next chapter.
