It was a day of firsts this past Saturday for the KC Current. The women’s soccer team took the first touch of its 2024 season at the first game held in CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, the first-ever in the world to be purpose-built for professional women’s sports. We provided structural design services to Generator Studio for the Current’s new 77,000-square-foot home, which seats up to 11,500 fans. “I was an athlete in high school and love sports,” Project Engineer Christine Keith said. “I never imagined I would be able to help design a stadium that was built for women's sports and in my hometown. Seeing something of this magnitude come to life has been an incredible experience.” Christine, along with others from our Kansas City-based project team, were on hand to cheer on the Current as they defeated the Portland Thorns in a tight 5-4 battle. Our staff was lucky to snag season tickets for CPKC Stadium’s inaugural year, which was completely sold out.
