CPKC Stadium
On track to become the first stadium in the U.S. specifically designed for women’s professional sports.
overview
On track to be the first stadium in the U.S. specifically designed for women’s professional sports, CPKC Stadium in Kansas City will be the home base for the National Women’s Soccer League team when it opens in 2024.
We are providing structural design services to Generator Studio for the 11,500-seat soccer stadium, which will feature amenities including a concourse club and scoreboard bar. The stadium will also host concerts and other events. The endzone seating is partially demountable to accommodate underserved club sports such as rugby and lacrosse. The stadium will be interconnected with the city via an extension of the Kansas City streetcar.
highlights
- A large canopy wraps the stadium on three sides to protect the seating. The canopy was designed to meet the wind loads along the Missouri River.
- Our design had to accommodate for the project site having very poor soil—backfill over a levee built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This greatly increased the need for seismic design for the facility.
