A new sports and entertainment arena is taking shape in South Philadelphia as the future home of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, and the city’s future WNBA team. Targeted to open in 2030, the privately funded arena is being developed by Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Comcast Spectacor, with Populous and Moody Nolan leading the design.
Thornton Tomasetti is collaborating with Philadelphia-based Keast & Hood on structural engineering and providing protective design and security and resilience services. The arena will anchor a broader sports and entertainment district and continue the site’s legacy as a destination for major sporting events, live entertainment, and community programming.
