317 Main Community Music Center Addition

Founded in 2004, 317 Main provides local communities with a hub to gather, play and learn about music. The organization’s newest addition is a three-story multipurpose building with a concert hall, recording studios, educational spaces and café. Accentuating natural wood materials, the structure comprises cross laminated timber and traditional stick-built wood framing.

We provided structural engineering services to Paul Designs Project to equip the building with exemplary sustainable features. From planning to execution, the community center was built more efficiently as compared to traditional construction methods:. The process of manufacturing mass timber materials requires less energy and the prefabricated nature of the panels significantly reduces construction time.

• 317 Main uses five-ply CLT panels to enclose the roof and walls of the auditorium portion., allowing the project team to streamline interdisciplinary coordination that shortened on-site construction time.
• Panel-to-panel joints, mechanical penetrations and other dimensioned details were cut to high precision and coordinated during the shop drawing process, eliminating nearly all field cuts.
• CLT panels have an architectural grade finish that allows the exposed structure to also serve as the interior finish.
