BMW Press Plant Addition
Providing erection sequence and temporary foundation support for BMW's largest U.S. factory.
Overview
Vehicle manufacturer BMW's only US-based manufacturing plant is in South Carolina and produces more than 1,500 vehicles a day. As part of its continued investment in its US operations, it designed a new press shop that will cut raw coils of steel for future metal vehicle pieces such as doors, fenders and lift gates.
We provided erection engineering to Midwest Steel, Inc. for the facility, which will start production in 2024.
Highlights
- Our work included a temporary bracing and stability analysis of the partially completed structure and design for temporary bracing.
- We also evaluated the structure for assembly loads, developed an appropriate erection sequence and designed temporary foundation support for ground-assembly of trusses.
- We also developed a lifting plan for structural steel elements, evaluated crane paths and verified the required support for heavy equipment.
