The World's First 3D-Printed Commercial Building
The Office of the Future is the world's first 3D-printed commercial building and highlights the promise that 3D printing technology has for emerging and existing building materials. Needing only 17 days to print, the building used a 3D-printer measuring 20 feet high, 120 feet long and 40 feet wide to print the building's 17 modules which were then assembled on site in two days. The energy-efficient building is fully functional, featuring an open floorplan, a cafe and an exhibition space for events and workshops.
Collaborating with Gensler, Syska Hennessy Group, Killa Design and e.construct, we provided structural design and project delivery services to Dubai Future Foundation for the building, which was unveiled to the public in 2016.
Highlights
- We were instrumental in pioneering the 3D-printing technology and developing the concept, schematic and design development of the building before turning the project over to our partners at e.construct to deliver the construction documents.
