Overview

Ranked by the Military Times as one of the “best university for veterans,” Syracuse University’s National Veterans Resource Center (NVRC) showcases the University’s long-term commitment to the U.S. military. The three-floor structure has spaces and resources for students, veterans and the public.

We provided structural design services to SHoP architects for the facility, the first of its kind mixed-use building for veterans. The upper two floors house organizations and services for veterans and their families that include offices, workspaces, a café and a 750-seat auditorium, all designed with accessibility in mind.

Highlights

  • An arching cross-laminated timber architectural feature encloses three sides of a winding ramp that connects two of the floors.
  • An 8,00 square-foot roof garden, known as Parade Ground, spans 80 feet over the auditorium and serves as a private courtyard.
  • A curved wooden ramp wraps around the exterior of the building giving visitors an accessible and peaceful entrance to the facility.
