Overview

With its modern Miami living community, integrated academic and student services, flexible event and recreational spaces and locations for retail operations all on one site, the 540,000-square-foot Lakeside Village redefines what it means to live, learn and work at the University of Miami. The student housing campus features a 1,115-bed housing facility comprised of 25 interconnected buildings and also includes study lounges, a 200-seat auditorium, multi-purpose room and recreational spaces.

We provided structural design services to Arquitectonica for the development, which opened in 2020.

Highlights

  • Scope of work included the transfer of tall slender concrete columns and walls at level 1 to allow for large open spaces at ground floor by using a system of post-tensioned beams.
  • Post-tensioned slabs, concrete walls and columns were included in the work as well as sloped roof slabs with gardens.
  • The project features pod buildings linked together by narrow link slabs at each level.
  • We also provided structural design services for the main stairs of the development.
