Redefining the Fort Bonifacio Global City Skyline

Home to the Philippine Stock Exchange, high-end luxury condominiums and some of the tallest high-rises in the country, the Bonifacio Global City area in Manila is an emerging vibrant business and commercial hub. An iconic addition to the city’s skyline is The Finance Centre, a 42-story tower atop an adjacent eight-story podium that features retail, a public plaza and a sky garden.

We provided structural design and performance-based design services to Gensler for the high-rise, which opened to the public in 2018.

Highlights

  • In close collaboration with the architect and developer, we designed a cost-efficient structural system for the all-concrete building that provides a column-free office lease area with an 11.5-meter clear span between the core and the building’s perimeter.
  • A unique outrigger system utilizing sloping perimeter columns allows for the structure’s curvilinear architecture and optimizes leasable space while providing additional tower stiffness for the control of wind drifts.
  • The floor beams serve double duty: in addition to providing outrigger connections between the core and the perimeter columns, the beams provide gravity support for the long spanning floors between the core and the perimeter of the tower.
  • All building materials were selected based on availability in the local market.
