Singapore’s Largest Performance Space
The Star Vista - Singapore’s largest entertainment venue - features a mix of performance, entertainment and event spaces in addition to retail and underground parking. The centerpiece of the complex is its 5,000-seat theatre, the largest performing arts theatre in the country. The Star Vista is also the first naturally cooled mall in Singapore thanks to the structure’s passive design and hybrid ventilation strategy.
We provided structural design services to Aedas and local engineer of record Parsons Brinckerhoff (WSP) for this 62,000 square-meter project, which opened in 2012.
Highlights
- The initial design for the complex included extensive vibration analysis and devising the structural and lateral support systems to enable the building’s unique geometry.
- The floating theater and lobby atrium on the fifth level is supported by four-story-deep wall trusses that rest on elegant sloping columns.
- The interior of the theatre has a column-free perimeter that allows unobstructed views of the stage.
- A skybridge outside the theater spans almost 80 meters between the end supports.
